Erik Lamela was in action for Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday when they took on Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium in the Premier League.
The Argentina international attacker had come into form over the last few weeks, and much was expected of him against the defending English champions.
Signed from AS Roma for a reported transfer fee of £30 million last summer, Lamela endured an injury-hit disappointing debut season in the Premier League in 2013-14.
However, this campaign there have been signs that the former River Plate youngster could finally show his class, but against City everything fell apart.
Lamela was at fault for City’s first goal as he gave away the ball and also conceded a penalty. The Argentine was not the worst Spurs player on the pitch at the Etihad, but he was certainly among the poor ones as Mauricio Pochettino’s side went down 4-1.
Tottenham fans were understandably not pleased with Lamela’s performance against City and took to social networking site Twitter to have their say on his display. Below are the best reactions:
I hope #Lamela recovers during halftime because he's a head case!!!— BROOKLYN_RovaZzz (@Rovazzz) October 18, 2014
Ok he's made two crucial errors (one being slightly harsh) throwing his hands up in the air and sulking ain't gonna fix anything #lamela— Steele Boolkin (@steele_sa) October 18, 2014
