There was at least one positive from Queens Park Rangers' 3-2 defeat to the Reds...
It was just a shame that his own team-mates decided to score two own goals and ensure his debut ended in a 3-2 defeat against the Reds.
As Harry Redknapp aptly put it, the west London side were 'naive.'
“I don’t need anyone to tell me that they were lucky, I could see that for myself. There is no way we deserved to get beat today," QPR boss Redknapp told reporters after the game.
“That’s the best I’ve seen us play since I’ve been at the club, including last year in the Championship. That was the best performance I’ve seen.
“We were naïve. We get a free-kick with one minute to go. We don’t send our big men up and chip a ball into the box for them to head it out and break on us."
But there were positives at Loftus Road on Sunday. QPR's performance in general - perhaps their back four aside - was a huge improvement on recent weeks.
And McCarthy was good enough for many Rs fans to call for him to be kept as their no.1, as the following Tweets suggest...
Hope to see McCarthy retain his place. More commanding & decisive than Green. Despite the own goals, the defence looked more confident. #QPR— #JORDAN (@JordanQPR10) October 19, 2014
Sorry Rob, but I think I'd take McCarthy from now on.....#QPR— TremlQPR (@RichardTreml) October 19, 2014
Yun, Isla, Sandro, Zamora, Henry and Fer all played great. As did McCarthy. Keep him in goal. Not at fault for anything. #QPR— Lee C (@Deathmeister) October 19, 2014
