Liverpool morning news: Exit likely; new deal for teen; Reds’ Bale warning

A select round-up of the latest news relating to Liverpool

Liverpool right-back Glen Johnson is reportedly ready to move abroad this summer following the end of his contract with the Reds.

The Sunday Mirror claims the England international will seek pastures new, with Liverpool reportedly offering him a one-year extension on the proviso that he takes a significant pay-cut.

In other news, the same paper claims Raheem Sterling will soon sign a new £100,000-a-week deal to remain at Anfield for the long-haul.

Ongoing reports have linked the teenager with Real Madrid, but it seems Brendan Rodgers is keen to prevent that option from becoming even a vague possibility.

And finally, the Mirror has published an interesting editorial on the perils of selling your best player, seemingly as a warning for Liverpool not to do exactly that with Sterling.

Andy Dunn uses the example of Tottenham Hotspur selling Gareth Bale to Real Madrid – who will be facing Liverpool next week in the Champions League – as the perfect example as why selling your star name at such a young age is never a good thing.

With the reports of Sterling’s new deal being imminent, it appears Liverpool will not live with such regrets.
