Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger reveals ‘concern’ over going 11 points behind Chelsea in Premier League

Arsene Wenger comments on Arsenal going 11 points behind Chelsea in the Premier League table on Saturday.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admitted that it is a ‘concern’ for him that his side are now 11 points off the pace in the Premier League table.

The Gunners have made a disappointing start to the 2014-15 season, and that continued on Saturday when they were held to a 2-2 draw by Hull City.

Alexis Sanchez put the North London club in the lead after just 13 minutes, but four minutes later Mohamed Diame scored a controversial equaliser.

Abel Hernandez stunned the Emirates faithful in the first minute of the second half when he made it 2-1 to Hull, but a late goal from Danny Welbeck saw the spoils shared.

Combined with Chelsea’s win at Crystal Palace on Saturday, the result at the Emirates means that Arsenal are now 11 points behind Jose Mourinho’s side, who are the current leaders.

Wenger has admitted that being so far behind at so early a stage in the season is a cause for concern.

‘Of course [it’s a concern]’, Arsenal’s official website quotes the Frenchman as saying. ‘I cannot say it’s not a concern, it’s a big concern because the other teams have won their games and we haven’t. I cannot say it’s not a big concern’.

Arsenal are now outside the top four in sixth place in the Premier League table, but they have little time to brood over Saturday’s disappointing result.

That’s because Wenger’s side are back in action on Wednesday when they take on Belgian giants Anderlecht away from home in the Champions League Group D.
