Newcastle United 1-0 Leicester City: Obertan makes it worth the wait

Gabriel Obertan scored the winner in a game delayed by an hour.

Newcastle United have won their first game in the Premier League this season against Leicester City.

It was a game which took an hour to get under way. Referee Martin Atikinson had to stop the European Championship qualifier between Serbia and Albania earlier in the week after a drone was flown over the pitch, causing a riot.

He almost had to call this one off after the new Newcastle big screen looked to have come loose in the high winds on Tyneside.

For a while most fans would have wished that Atkinson had just cancelled the game in the first place.

It was a dire first-half, but the second half was much livelier.

And Newcastle gained their first win of the season courtesy of their renaissance man Gabriel Obertan.

Newastle dominated the second half but it took some magic from the Frenchman to win the game. He jinked in from the left hand side before firing home into the bottom corner.

Newcastle held on for the remainder of the game to move on to seven points.
