Everton fans got a great piece of news earlier this afternoon when manager Roberto Martinez named Ross Barkley in the starting line-up against Aston Villa.
The 20-year-old midfielder had suffered an injury to his medial collateral ligament before the start of the 2014-15 season and had been on the sidelined until now.
Barkley had recently returned to full training, but there was little suggestion that he could feature against the Villans at Goodison Park today.
However, Martinez deemed the England international fit enough to start the Premier League encounter in what was a move that would have certainly surprised many.
Everton have suffered in the absence of Barkley as they have fallen perilously close to the relegation zone. But now that the wonderkid is back, the Toffees’ fortunes could change.
