This week has seen Ryan Shawcross linked with Manchester United. The Stoke City defender has been a consistent performer for The Potters over the past few Premier LEague sesons, ever since leaving United for The Britannia on a loan spell back in 2007.
He made that move permanent in 2008 and has gone on leaps and bounds - becoming a star for his club, captaining them in an FA Cup final and winning a solitary, for now, England cap.
But United apparently have a buy-back option in his deal and Louis van Gaal is considering exercising it to strengthen his weak back-line.
The trio of Jonny Evans, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling are too injury prone to be relied on. Meanwhile Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand left in the summer. So another defensive reinforcement is certainly necessary.
And judging by comments made to Sky Sports Soccer AM show he would not be averse to a move.
He took part in the regular 'I love football because' feature, with the first question being 'who was your idol growing up?'
The answer? Well a Manchester United legend of course:
"My footballing hero was Roy Keane. He was a great leader, a great player. He got the best out of his team-mates and would drive them forward."
The second question, 'your favourite football ground?
Wembley got the nod, joint with Old Trafford:
"My favourite ground is Wembley because of the FA Cup final and semi-final and also Old Trafford. Just for the memories of going there when I was younger and obviously being a Manchester United fan as well."
It certainly seems that Shawcross still holds a candle for his beloved United. If the club are serious about signing him it looks as though there would be no complaints from Shawcross himself.
