Liverpool prospect Sergi Canos wants to follow in the footsteps of fellow Spaniard and former Everton loanee Gerard Deulofeu in his bid to prove his Premier League credentials.
Aged 17, Canos came up through Barcelona’s famed La Masia like Deulofeu as one of the club’s most exciting talents, before opting to snub the Catalan giants last summer in favour of a lucrative contract with the Reds.
Having established himself as a regular in the club’s under-18 side since, the versatile forward has gone on to make his debut for the reserves this season, and now intends to emulate the Merseyside success of his compatriot.
‘I identify myself with Gerard Deulofeu. I love his personality and his way of playing,’ he told Castellon Informacion.
‘We both played on the right side but I still have to work and improve a lot to become like him.’
Canos also admitted that he misses life in Spain when asked if he would consider a return to Barca at some stage, but stresses that making a name for himself at Liverpool remains his number one goal.
‘Now I am here, at Liverpool, and I would love to play in the Premier League and at Anfield one day. I wish to have that luck,’ he said.
‘Those who have been at Anfield know how impressive it is. The first time I went to see the first team there I hallucinated. I have no words to describe what my father and I lived that day. Playing at Anfield is an extra motivation for the youngsters.’
