‘He needs a run in the side,’ Spurs player needs chances says ex-pro

Tottenham Hotspur striker needs a prolonged spell in the team according to ex-star.

Former Tottenham Hotspur player Chris Waddle believes Roberto Soldado can still be a success at White Hart Lane, if he is given a sustained run in the team.

Waddle was speaking to the London Evening Standard prior to Spurs 4-1 defeat to Manchester City – a match in which Soldado started but failed to influence after missing a penalty.

But in the build-up to that game, Waddle suggested that Tottenham would only see the best of Soldado if he played week in, week out.

“He’s never really been given a run in the side,” he said of the Spaniard. “(If they told him) ‘Look there are five, six, seven games and you’re going to play all the time’ then you’d see.”

Soldado played the full match against City but he could not help his team avoid a humiliating defeat against a side who are making a habit of scoring plenty against Tottenham.

The Spurs forward has netted just twice so far this season, and he has 13 goals since his move to White Hart Lane in 2013. But Waddle is speaking sense when he suggests forwards have to play their way into form.

The problem is Tottenham do not have time to be patient with Soldado, but if they were, they may finally see the best of him.
