Carragher: You can 'never see' Lamela's Spurs career turning around, only Eriksen has looked good

The former Liverpool defender had some harsh words for the Argentine.

Jamie Carragher does not see Erik Lamela's Spurs career turning around.

The £30 million signing from Roma came to White Hart Lane last year but endured a frustrating debut campaign in north London.

Poor form - but also a string of injuries - hampered the Argentine's time at Tottenham.

This season, however, the 22-year-old has looked a lot more promising. But Carragher says he can 'never see' Lamela's Spurs career turning around. So far, he has only rated Christian Eriksen of last year's Tottenham signings.

Discussing the seamless transition Manchester United's Angel Di Maria has made to life in the Premier League, Carragher wrote in his Daily Mail column:

"It’s why I look at Tottenham, who travel to Manchester City on Saturday afternoon, and wonder how it will end for the men who arrived 12 months ago, during the record-breaking transfer of Gareth Bale (someone else who has had no issues with a new league in his first season) to Real Madrid.

"Of all the players who arrived during that £100m spree, only Christian Eriksen looked good. But with Roberto Soldado, Paulinho and Erik Lamela you can never see it turning, irrespective of Spurs paying a fortune to sign them. They are not the first and won’t be the last."
