Arsenal fielded a makeshift back-four against Hull City on Saturday, with full-back Nacho Monreal operating as a centre-back and youngster Hector Bellerin making his Premier League debut at right-back.
Ultimately the Gunners secured a point, with Danny Welbeck scoring late in the game, but how did Monreal do in his unfamiliar position?
The first thing to note is his passing accuracy, which was an outstanding 98.77%. In short, for all the question marks surrounding the Arsenal player's position on the pitch, he rarely gave the ball away, suggesting composure in the face of unfamiliar circumstances.
Monreal also excelled when it came to duels, winning eight ground duels and five aerial duels, while he also made an impressive six interceptions, won three tackles and made one effective clearance.

Monreal's centre-back role will raise questions - again - surrounding Arsenal's summer transfer business, with their defence looking weaker than ever against the Tigers and a shock defeat only a few minutes from becoming a reality.
Surely the Gunners will attempt to sign an experienced centre-back in January, to add competition for for Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker - whose own performance against Hull was questionable. But Monreal can be proud of his contribution, and after the match we took to Twitter to see what Arsenal fans made of his performance.

Monreal was nowhere to be seen but that's awful from Mertesacker. No attempt to jump or block the attacker from getting to the ball.— Viva El Tigre (@OnceUponUnited) October 18, 2014
