What Wenger said when challenged about Podolski at Arsenal's AGM

Arsene Wenger explained why Lukas Podolski hasn't been a key feature of his side at the Arsenal AGM yesterday.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger faced questions on several topics yesterday as he and several other high ranking officials at the club, held Arsenal’s AGM.

At one point, a shareholder from those in attendance yelled ‘Podolski’ at the club’s manager, with the individual seemingly seeking clarification over the current status of the popular German.

Wenger’s response was as follows according to the Mirror.

“Someone shouts Podolski from the floor. "He was a bit behind physically, I've found him more efficient from the flank."

Podolski has found himself on the very fringe of the Arsenal squad this season, waiting patiently for a chance as speculation grows over his future heading towards a busy winter period.

The German forward is one of the most popular players at the club and there was pressure on Wenger to move him into the centre forward role after Olivier Giroud got injured but before the club signed Danny Welbeck.

However, Wenger suggests that he’s more efficient from Arsenal’s left hand side, which is a problem given the summer signing of Alexis Sanchez from Barcelona.

The Chilean played the majority of games for Barca on the left and in a straight up choice between the two players, Wenger is more likely to select his new signing over the eager German.

Is Podolski’s Arsenal career over? Certainly not. He just needs to grab the chance he’s given with both hands when it eventually arrives.

Podolski provides cover in two positions; up front and on the left and he’s simply been unfortunate that others have been in better form, which has seen his wait for a start in the Premier League or Champions League delayed.
