Sunderland defender John O’Shea signed a two-year contract extension on Thursday.
The 33-year-old Republic of Ireland international joined the Black Cats from Manchester United in the summer of 2011.
The veteran defender, who can also play in defensive midfield, has since established himself as a key player for the Premier League outfit.
O’Shea has made over 120 appearances for Sunderland and has earned 100 caps for Ireland. His new contract will see him remain at the Stadium of Light until June 2017.
‘Since I arrived at Sunderland I have enjoyed every minute and I’m really happy that I can continue here for another two years’, the former United star told Sunderland’s official website.
‘To captain a club like this and to play in front of our fantastic supporters is a huge honour and I look forward to showing my commitment to the club on the pitch in the years to come’.
