Pochettino discusses South American connections ahead of City game

The Tottenham boss has come up against several Manchester City players before, as well as being a teammate of one City star.

As Spurs line up against Manchester City on Saturday afternoon, the North Londoner's head coach Mauricio Pochettino will be facing several friendly faces in the Citizens lineup.

The Tottenham boss revealed that he is familiar with several members of the Manchester City squad, mainly on account of the heavy Argentinian contingent at the Etihad as well as the Spurs boss spending plenty of time in La Liga.

“Manuel [Pellegrini] is a very good manager. We have a good relationship. I’m happy for him,” Pochettino said.

“I know the Argentina players and I know the squad, unbelievable players. Zabaleta was my team-mate at Espanyol and I know him well. Aguero and Demichelis are players of big quality. City have a strong squad and we expect a tough game.”

Most important for Pochettino is that Tottenham improve against a side that demolished them last season, recording a 6-0 victory at the Etihad and 5-1 at White Hart Lane.

However, with Spurs coming off the back of an impressive win over Southampton in their last league game, the 42-year-old has plenty of room for optimism.

“We need to reproduce the same feeling and the same style we had against Southampton, to try to take that momentum and put it into practice against City.

“We are confident after the win against Southampton. We know we have a strong team in front of us but the most important thing is to follow our style and philosophy.

“We expect a tough game but we are confident in our skill and we’ll go to Manchester to try to get the points.”
