Pochettino believes Spurs prospect has great potential, says 'Boro boss

Mauricio Pochettino believes that Milos Veljkovic has great potential, according to Middlesbrough boss Aitor Karanka.

Middlesbrough manager Aitor Karanka says that Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has high hopes for Milos Veljkovic.

Veljkovic signed on loan with the Championship side today, and Karanka is clearly delighted to have the Serbian defender at his disposal.

“Milos is still a young player but he one with a very potential and for that reason we are happy he has joined us,” he said to the Gazette.

“We have watched him closely and he is a good talent who can play as a central defender or as a midfielder and we think he will be a good fit for us.

“I have spoken to his manager Mauricio Pochettino who I have a good relationship with and he believes Milos has great potential too.

“And I have spoken to the player as well and we all feel that it would be best for his development if he had the chance to join us.

“It is important that he is a club where he has a chance to play in the first team.”

Veljkovic is highly regarded at Spurs and he has already played for the senior squad twice, despite his tender years.

At 19 years of age, Veljkovic still has plenty of time to develop, but Spurs feel that his development would be best served away from White Hart Lane.

If he does start for Middlesbrough he will have high standards to keep up, as the side have made a positive opening to their Championship campaign.

'Boro play with a possession based style and it means that Veljkovic will have to show his technical ability as well as his defensive astuteness during his time in the North-East.

If he can impress it looks a good move for the youngster and he will be hoping that he does enough to convince Pochettino that he can make the grade at White Hart Lane when he does return to the club.
