Former Manchester United midfielder Nicky Butt has his say on how Louis van Gaal’s side will fare in the Premier League this season.

Nicky Butt has warned the Manchester United fans that things will not always be rosy for them this season.

The Red Devils head into this weekend’s round of matches in the Premier League placed fourth in the table with 11 points from seven matches.

Louis van Gaal’s side did not have the best of starts to the 2014-15 campaign, but having won their last two league fixtures they are now back on track for a top-four finish, maybe even fight for the title.

Butt is hopeful that his former club can continue their winning run, but admits that there will be tougher days.

‘I think it's hard not to be excited [about the season], especially when you look at the forward line we've got now’, the 39-year-old former England international told United’s official website.

‘The whole squad we have is very exciting. I'm sure there will be more ups and downs but United fans know all about that. We've got a lot of goals in our locker and hopefully there will be a lot more ups than downs and we'll be near the top of the table come the end of the season’.

United will indeed have ‘ups and downs’ and will suffer defeats. What will be important is how they recover from it. Manager Van Gaal has yet to sort out his defence, and that will take time. United do have goals in them, but they are still a long way off from becoming a ‘team’.
