Norwegian and German football expert Jan Aage Fjortoft has suggested Pep Guardiola could replace Louis van Gaal at Manchester United as early as next summer.
Fjortoft was asked his thoughts on the possibility of Guardiola heading to Old Trafford after the Spaniard admitted that he could see himself as the coach at Old Trafford at some point in the future.
Louis van Gaal has insisted that he will be seeing out the three-year deal he signed when he took over at United, but Fjortoft has also suggested that three-years can be a lengthy period of time for any coach at a top European club.
Things could change dramatically and go either way based on how United perform on the remainder of the season.
On the one hand, Guardiola could be targeted to replace LvG if United’s results don’t improve their league position from last season and get them back into the Champions League.
On the other hand, van Gaal could do a domestic double, which would see his stock and status rise at the club considering United have already been written off in several places this season.
Guardiola would be a top coach at United but it’s extremely doubtful that any such move will happen as quickly as JAF suggests.
