Italian journalist gives Divock Origi, Fabio Borini and Victor Valdes update

Victor Valdes

Prominent Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano has his say on rumours surrounding Liverpool strikers Divock Origi and Fabio Borini.

Divock Origi is on loan at Lille from Liverpool until the end of the season, but there have been suggestions that the striker could be recalled to Anfield in the January transfer window.

Premier League outfit Liverpool are struggling for goals at the moment, with star £16 million summer signing Mario Balotelli misfiring. First-choice centre-forward Daniel Sturridge is still recovering from his thigh injury, while Rickie Lambert and Fabio Borini are largely seen as back-ups by manager Brendan Rodgers.

There have been reports in the British media in recent days claiming that Rodgers could recall Origi, who was signed by Liverpool in the summer transfer window from the French club but was allowed to remain at the Ligue 1 outfit for the 2014-15 campaign.

However, well-known Sky Italia journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Origi will join Liverpool only next summer. He has also reported that there will be loan bids for Borini in January, while stating that Victor Valdes has no agreement in place with the Merseyside outfit at the moment.

The Valdes situation is an interesting one. The former Barcelona goalkeeper has widely been reported to join Liverpool this season in order to give first-choice custodian Simon Mignolet some competition.

Signed from Sunderland last summer, Mignolet replaced Pepe Reina as Rodgers’s number one goalkeeper, but the 26-year-old’s high-profile mistakes have led to the Liverpool manager looking for an experienced back-up.

Valdes is currently a free agent having left Barcelona at the end of last season, but he has struggled with fitness issues which has led to a delay in Liverpool offering him a contract.
