But regardless of how tough Villa make it for the Toffees at the weekend, they will still triumph by a 2-0 score, says Paul Merson.
Everton have returned some horrid domestic results of late.
From their opening game draw with Leicester City, to their 6-3 loss to Chelsea, a 3-2 defeat against Crystal Palace and a 2-1 loss to Manchester United there is one thing that is clear - Everton must start winning.
"Everton are fourth bottom and desperately need to start winning games," said Sky Sports analyst Paul Merson in his weekly preview column.
"There’s a lot of pressure on them because they spent a fair amount of money in the close season and they’ve started poorly," he added.
"Villa will go there and make it very difficult indeed for them – they will want a draw to break their losing run because they’ve had some nightmare fixtures.
"Against Man City they hung on for so long before getting ground down at the end and I think they might lose again at Goodison Park.
"Villa have done great and have been embarrassed nowhere, but there are games coming up they are more likely to win."
Everton host Aston Villa at Goodison Park on Saturday, October 18 at 15:00.
Merson anticipates a 2-0 home win.
