AC Milan make move on Southampton target

AC Milan scouts have been in Argentina watching talented River Plate midfielder Leonel Vangioni, according to transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio.

Southampton are reportedly keeping an eye on River Plate midfielder Leonel Vangioni but they may lose out to AC Milan.

The 27-year-old has been on the Saints' radar for some time, but the Italian club are also interested and seem to have moved into pole position.

Milan reportedly saw Vangioni as the alternative to Pablo Armero in the summer transfer window and have kept him on their shopping list.

Armero hasn't lived up to expectations and Milan have apparently made contact with River Plate, according to Italian transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, to see if they can get to the front of the queue.

Vangioni is a star in the Argentine Primera Division and has made four appearances for Argentina and many experts feel this is the correct time in his career to try his hand in Europe.

Young Milan director Rocco Maiorino has just returned from two weeks in Argentina on the trail of Vangioni, so Southampton may have their work cut out if they still want him.
