5 interesting stats from Newcastle v Leicester game: Ulloa more accurate than Costa

Alan Pardew

HITC:Sport breakdown the most interesting statistics heading into the Newcastle United vs Leicester City game at St James Park.

As Premier League football returns after the international break, Newcastle United are one of the teams most in need of a victory as they are yet to return a win in the division all season.

Their defence is also one of the most porous and, on Saturday, October 18, the Magpies come up against one of the most precise strikers of the football this season - Leonardo Ulloa, who has a superior goals per shots ratio than feared Chelsea front-man Diego Costa.

  TeamPos(Goals:Shots%AppsMins
Leonardo Ulloa Leicester FW 41.67% 7 572
Diego Costa Chelsea FW 40.91% 7 589

Ulloa, 28, an £8 million purchase from Brighton and Hove Albion earlier this year, has already proven money well spent as he has returned five goals from six shots on target thus far this season.

Newcastle United have been struggling for form throughout 2014, have conceded two or more goals in nine from their last 12 games in their home ground. And have collected the fewest wins from the ever-present clubs in the division (five).

Wes Morgan's positioning cannot be called into question as, from his seven outings in the league to date, he has been responsible for the most blocks - 11.

Manager Alan Pardew will be buoyed from a triple injury-boost as Tim Krul, Darly Janmaat and Paul Dummett have all been ruled match fit, following injury setbacks suffered on international duty.

Pardew will be without Emmanuel Riviere while Sammy Ameobi may face a late assessment over his availability.
