The 21-year-old French youth international has been linked with Arsenal in the past, but has seen a copious amount of transfer rumours amount to very little substance. However, Ronald Scheubel was quick to confirm to French press the Gunners’ interest in the winger.
Last month, Thauvin went on record to play down the interest in him, insisting he never thought about a move to Inter Milan and is happy in France.
‘’The president had contact with inter, but I don’t know exactly what happened,’’ said the French winger.
‘’Things were clear for the president and me; my departure was out of the question, so honestly I haven’t studied the offer.
‘’It’s flattering [interest from elsewhere]. [But] I am a Marseille player and they are a big club too.
‘’Here I feel really good.’’
It seems, for the moment at least, Thauvin has his focus on staying in France and helping the French giants return to top of the pile.
Last week, the Marseille winger put himself back in the headlines after netting the opening goal against Sweden in a crucial qualifying match for French under-21s, helping them to an eventual 2-0 win. He also assisted Layvin Kurzawa in France’s only goal in the second-leg as Sweden turned the tie on its head, winning 4-3 on aggregate, progressing to the next round of the European competition.
The interest doesn't stop at just Arsenal and Inter Milan either. Manchester United, Juventus and Tottenham, too, are said to be interested in the Marseille winger and could look to snipe Arsenal to who some have described as the next Ribery.
It may be a long, drawn-out, transfer saga but whichever team signs Marseille’s golden boy will definitely have a player with great potential on their hands.
