Roberto Martinez on what he loves about Romelu Lukaku

Roberto Martinez has praised Everton striker Romelu Lukaku's attitude.

Everton boss Roberto Martinez says that he loves Romelu Lukaku's attitude.

The striker has not been in the best form since completing a big-money permanent move to Goodison Park this summer, but Martinez has been pleased with his perseverance.

"What I love about Rom is his attitude," he said in a press conference today. "He wants to be on the pitch, he wants to help the team and he'll accept any moments of form so that he can get through it."

Lukaku came to Everton with a weight of expectations on his shoulders after his stunning campaign last year.

The Belgian was on loan at Goodison Park and spearheaded the club's attack as they climbed to fifth in the league table.

However, so far he has fallen short of those standards and only hit the back of the net twice.

Martinez believes that this is because he was part of Belgium's World Cup campaign over the summer, as the sheer volume of games have been tough to deal with.

"Romelu is still finding his best moment of form and any player that comes back from the World Cup takes a bit of a transitional period," he said.

"I think Rom has done incredible to make himself available for the games we had. He's played a lot of games and probably his desire to help the team has stopped him from concentrating on being fully fit."

"Over the next few weeks we'll try to give him that physical element that he needs. When you come back from the World Cup you need to recover from the previous season."

"I think now Rom needs to play and get his match fitness and he's too important for us. We can't afford to give him a resting period and I don't think that would help him."

"I think now he's got a good level of fitness through the games he's played so it's a responsibility we've got at the club that we get him fully fit so he can enjoy his football."

Lukaku is likely to be part of the Everton side which take on Aston Villa side tomorrow, as they aim to grab the three points.

The Toffees are currently in 17th position in the league and anything other than a win in the fixture will be considered a major disappointment.
