With the international break now over, several Newcastle United first-teamers have made a welcome return to the training pitch ahead of Saturday’s home game against Leicester City, including goalkeeper Tim Krul.

It had been reported that the Dutchman could be ruled out for a number of weeks after injuring his left elbow while with the Netherlands squad, but he has since been passed fit for the weekend after a scan revealed that the damage to the ligament was just minor.

Full-backs Daryl Janmaat and Paul Dummett, who both pulled out of international duty with knocks, also returned to action, as well as French teammates Moussa Sissoko and Remy Cabella, with manager Alan Pardew likely to start all four against the Foxes.

There was further good news elsewhere, as utility man Ryan Taylor ramped up his recovery from a two-year injury layoff which almost ended his career, with whispers that the 30-year-old could even make the bench for the coming match.

Newcastle remains winless in the Premier League this season, sitting 18th in the table with four points from their seven games, and fan pressure on the beleaguered boss to turn around results remains as intense as ever going into the weekend.
