Paul Merson anticipates a weekend victory for Southampton as he believes Italy striker Graziano Pelle, who scored on his Azzurri debut earlier this week, will take his elite-level form back to the Saints.
Sunderland, though, are no slouches when it comes to recent performances as they trounced Stoke City by a 3-1 score in their most recent match and are currently 13th in the Premier League table.
"Sunderland had a good result in their last game against Stoke and they are hard to beat," said Paul Merson in his weekly preview column for Sky Sports.
"They have only lost one game all season, they keep things very tight and then they go from there.
"But I am just going to go for a narrow Southampton win at home. Graziano Pelle scored for Italy in midweek, so he will be flying high and I think they will just about sneak this one.
Southampton take on Sunderland at St Marys Stadium on Saturday, October 18 at 15:00.
Merson tips the home team to trumph with a 2-1 scoreline.
