John McGovern is happy to see a ‘buzz’ around the City Ground, with Forest aiming for promotion.
The summer signings of Michael Mancienne, Michail Antonio and Britt Assombalonga have catalysed a side who ended the last campaign in mid-table, and ties with Cardiff, Watford and Blackburn in the coming weeks allow Forest the chance to cement their title credentials.
Despite going four games without a win, the Reds remain undefeated in the league, and former Forest midfielder John McGovern - part of the twice-European Cup winning side of Brian Clough - is delighted with the ‘buzz’ surrounding the club with the potential for their bright future.
Talking to the official Forest website, the now-club ambassador said: “There’s a buzz about the club and long may it last.
“The biggest goal of course is winning promotion, but at the moment we’re right at the very top. Confidence is high, the players respect those they’re playing with, there’s a lot of quality in the squad and the team spirit is evident for everyone to see.”
Cardiff is the first challenge up for Pearce following the international break, with the Bluebirds looking to impress new head coach Russell Slade, who left Leyton Orient to take charge at the Cardiff City Stadium. Forest will be looking to find their first win in five games, and McGovern is confident that his former team have shown enough in the early parts of the season to overcome any challenge.
He added: “Defensively we’ve been well set to withstand pressure from the opposition. We’ve had to do it in extremes at Sheffield Wednesday and Bournemouth because their play was very direct.
“It’ll be no different from any other away game. You don’t want to lose an early goal because the home team get their tails up, but if we go out there and play as we did in the early part of this season we should fear no one.”
