Chelsea and Manchester City were the pre-season favourites to become embroiled in a two-horse race for the Premier League title.
But Liverpool star Mario Balotelli, a £16 million signing from AC Milan, has warned the two Blues that he intends to ensure there is a third team in the mix.
The current Premier League landscape sees Chelsea setting a good pace with 19 points returned from a possible 21, five ahead of Manchester City in second place with 14.
Liverpool, meanwhile, are dawdling behind with just ten points and are languishing in ninth place, but Balotelli refuses to focus on the top four as he wants the title.
"You ask me if I think we can finish in the top four – I hope so," said the striker to talkSPORT earlier today, Thursday. "But I am focused and I want to work on us winning the league, not coming in the first four places.
“No-one is in this competition to try and lose it, everybody plays to win, and I think Chelsea and Manchester City are the teams we need to aim for.
"We have to give our best, and whatever happens will happen, but I hope we can come very close to the Premier League title.”
