Jamie Carragher believes that Manchester United have brought in Daley Blind to do the same role as Nemanja Matic does for Chelsea.
Matic has become of the Blues' most pivotal performers after a number of excellent displays since signing in January and Carragher feels than Blind can do the same job.
The Dutch international was signed from Ajax this summer and has done a credible job so far, but he will have to be consistently excellent if he is to match Matic's performances.
"The bigger tests will come when United take on Chelsea, Man City, Arsenal and Liverpool over the next month or two, but Blind has looked very neat and tidy with the ball so far," Carragher wrote on Sky Sports' site. "He has been brought into the team to do the role Nemanja Matic does so well as Chelsea – sit deep and offer protection to the attacking players in front of him – and you can see he is a clever footballer.
"His dad, Danny, was also a very cultured and intelligent player who had a great understanding of the game, albeit at centre-back rather than in midfield, and Daley looks to have soaked up a lot of that wisdom.
"He is able to play in a number of positions and never seems fazed or overawed by anything, while he is a very athletic player as well so can get up and down the pitch if needs be. Blind looks like a very good signing, especially at around £14million."
Blind's arrival at Old Trafford has coincided with an upturn in results for the Red Devils.
Louis Van Gaal's men kicked off the campaign in worrying form, but they have improved hugely since and now have a place in the top-four.
The pressure will be on them to build on this, and elevate themselves back into title contention after a big summer spend.
Blind joined a host of high-profile additions brought in at Old Trafford to stop the slump that they were on and they appear to have had the desired impact.
Despite this, there are still concerns over the defensive quality of the side and Blind will play a vital role in proving these doubts wrong.
He is one of the first names on the Red Devils' team-sheet currently and if United are to meet their expectations this year they will need him to maintain his good form.
