Arsenal fans react on Twitter to Mats Hummels rumours - 'Let's make it happen!'

Mats Hummels 2 Germany

Arsenal have been linked with a potential move for Borussia Dortmund skipper Mats Hummels.

Several reports have suggested that Arsenal are eyeing a move for Borussia Dortmund captain Mats Hummels, which would deliver a hammer blow to long term admirers Manchester United.

Hummels has been linked with several moves away from BVB over the last six months with reports suggesting that Arsenal could be interested in making a £32 million move for the German World Cup winner.

Hummels’ season hasn’t started as he would have been hoping following the World Cup as his appearances have been restricted due to injury and BVB have slipped into the bottom half of the Bundesliga table.

Arsene Wenger has been criticised in several places for not signing an experienced defender to replace former captain Thomas Vermaelen, who joined Barcelona over the summer in a £15 million deal.

Hummels would represent a fitting alternative, although a lot later than fans would have been hoping, and Arsenal wouldn’t lose any part of the leadership qualities that the Belgian displayed during his time at the club.

Wenger did make a defensive signing in the form of Calum Chambers from Southampton but that appears to have been more of a long term option, aimed at multiple positions.

Chambers has already played at right-back and centre back for the club this season, with Wenger also commenting on his potential to do a solid job in holding midfield for the club.

Should they move for Hummels, one of Arsenal’s main problems is going to be Manchester United.

However, the Gunners have the cash to match any deal United could put together and they arguably have a better chance of finishing in the top four by the end of the season, which would mean the retention of Champions League football.

Here’s what Arsenal fans on Twitter have had to say about the possibility of Hummels joining Mesut Ozil, Per Mertesacker and Lukas Podolski at the Emirates Stadium.
