10 free games available on Steam this weekend

Starting today Steam users can download and play 10 games completely free for the weekend.

Steam is offering up 10 games completely free this weekend beginning at 6pm BST (10am PST). All the games are heavily discounted for the duration too, so if you decide to buy them it won't cost you the regular price.

I shouldn't really have to talk about these games to give you an idea of what they're like, they're totally free all weekend so you should be downloading them all and seeing for yourself. But, of course I'm going to wax lyrical about the ones I've played and enjoyed.

First up there's XCOM: Enemy Unknown, a modern reboot of the XCOM strategy series from the 90s. It's a great tribute to the original titles and fans will be catered to as well as new players. You play as a commander of a global force which investigates and combats an alien invasion - you must manage resources, expand your HQ, train and manage your combat squads all whilst keeping the alien threat at bay.

Injustice: Gods Among Us mixes the gameplay of Mortal Kombat 9 with the DC universe perfectly. Fans of either franchise will enjoy pummeling Superman's face as Batman, or if you're more for Superman you can do the reverse, up to you. The story mode is probably the most well-executed attempt I've ever seen in a fighting game too.

OK, that's enough of me drooling over the games. I've listed all 10 you'll be able to download below:

  • Awesomenauts
  • Blade Symphony
  • Company of Heroes 2
  • Don't Starve
  • Grid 2
  • Injustice
  • Killing Floor
  • Payday 2
  • Trine 2
  • XCOM: Enemy Unknown
