He was one of the most sought after teenagers in Europe before his move to Barcelona earlier this year, and now young midfielder Alen Halilovic could take in a spell in the Premier League on loan, with Sunderland.
Tottenham had been heavily linked with a move for the 18-year-old as soon as he burst onto the scene, with countryman and fellow playmaker Luka Modric still fresh in the mind of the Spurs faithful as well as a strong Croatian contingent having turned out at White Hart Lane in recent years.
Manchester United had also been mentioned as an interested party, before Barcelona jumped to the head of the queue and secured his signing before the transfer window opened for the summer.
Stating that Halilovic would be turning out for Barcelona's B team initially, it is being reported that those at the club have been so impressed with the former Dynamo Zagreb star that they eager to send him out on loan to get a higher level of football under his belt.
Sunderland boss Gus Poyet has contacts in Spain after a lengthy spell with Real Zaragoza in the 1990s, and Barcelona will have been impressed with how Gerard Deulofeou fared at Everton last season, although La Liga side and Luis Enrique's old club Celta Vigo are also said to be interested.
The likes of Spurs and United may be watching the situation with interest, but would be unlikely to make a loan move for someone they previously followed, while Barcelona would be loathed to accept a permanent switch for the starlet.
