Patrick Kluivert: Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal is the ‘Godfather of coaching’

Angry Louis van Gaal

Former Netherlands international striker Patrick Kluivert sings the praises of Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal.

Former Netherlands international striker Patrick Kluivert has described Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal as the ‘Godfather of coaching’.

The 38-year-old recently worked with his Dutch compatriot at the Netherlands national team. Former Newcastle United star Kluivert was Van Gaal’s assistant manager for the Oranje between 2012 and 2014.

Kluivert has also played under Van Gaal and holds him in very high regard.

‘What can I say? I think he is the Godfather of coaching’, the former Ajax and Barcelona striker told Sky Sports. ‘He has been at a lot of big clubs and has had a lot of success with big clubs, and that says something about Van Gaal’.

Van Gaal is widely regarded as one of the best football manager of all time. Although his departure from Barcelona and Bayern Munich were ‘messy’, he left a long-lasting effect on the two clubs.

The 63-year-old was appointed the United manager in the summer following a disastrous 2013-14 campaign in which the Red Devils finished as low as seventh in the Premier League.

Van Gaal has already started to get results at Old Trafford, but there is a long way to go before he can be termed a success at United.
