Luis Suarez may have left the club for Barcelona in the summer, but his recent comments about being the reason Liverpool were challenging for the title last summer have brought up feelings about the former Reds striker, but captain Steven Gerrard thanked the controversial Uruguayan, saying that Barcelona were lucky to have him,
"Good luck for the future mate, we wish you well," said Gerrard. "Thanks for everything you did last season for us. Barcelona are very lucky to have you."
Suarez's departure could have opened up a spot for Fabio Borini to play after his loan spell at Sunderland, but upon his return, he saw Mario Balotelli and Rickie Lambert arrive for a combined £20m as Brendan Rodgers overhauled his striking options over the summer. Borini was then linked with a permanent move away, and his agent Marco De Marchi admitted that he and his client were honoured to be a reported target for Inter Milan.
"That admiration makes us happy and proud," said Marco De Marchi. "Of course I was aware of it and the interest in the player, but it’s pleasing that [sporting director Piero] Ausilio is stating that publicly. I knew that Inter and other clubs were interested this summer, but for me Fabio is a top class player and it’s only right he try to find space at Liverpool."
Borini isn't the only Liverpool player being linked with a move to Italy, as right back Glen Johnson is reportedly a target for Napoli. The Serie A side are managed by Johnson's former Reds boss Rafael Benitez, and with his contract set to expire in the summer of 2015, Benitez is allegedly lining up a cut-price January move for the England international.
