Aston Villa midfielder Kieran Richardson has backed the club’s teenage sensation Jack Grealish for big things after seeing him put pen to paper on a new deal to June 2018.
Aged 19, Grealish has been hailed as one of the building blocks of Villa’s future after making his first-team breakthrough this term, earning rave reviews from four Premier League cameos and one Capital One Cup start thus far.
Having entered the final season of his contract, the promising winger’s future had been the subject of much speculation in recent weeks, with both Chelsea and Manchester United linked to his signature, but he remained intent on securing a new deal with his local club.
Having coming up through the ranks at Manchester United, Richardson knows the importance of remaining focused under the spotlight, and insists that his positional rival’s humble attitude will help him go straight to the top of the game.
‘Jack is a top player and a great lad,’ he told the club’s official website. ‘I've been very impressed with him since I joined the club in the summer.
‘I'm sure if he listens to the manager and his coaching staff who help him a lot he will be fine.
‘He needs to listen to people who have been there and done it and stay grounded and I'm sure he will do just that.
‘He's got a great head on his shoulders. He's a great lad, very humble and always wants to learn and that's great.
‘The ability is there - everyone can see it. I'm sure over the years he will become a top, top player in the English league.’
