The US national team were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw against Honduras on Tuesday night in Boca Raton, Florida, after a late Maynor Figueroa goal cancelled out Jozy Altidore’s opener.
It was a sloppier performance than head coach Jurgen Klinsmann would have hoped for, especially after recalling several of the squad’s 2014 World Cup veterans following Friday’s 1-1 draw with Ecuador in Landon Donovan’s farewell.
The US started brightly with hometown hero Altidore and Clint Dempsey linking well up top, with the Sunderland front man finding his strike-partner on a two-on-one break in the seventh-minute, before his soft pass left the captain shooting just wide of the net.
Two minutes later, however, a Mix Diskerud tackle led to another breakaway when Michael Bradley launched a perfect long ball forward to Altidore, who cut across the penalty area and sent a rocket past goalkeeper Donis Escober to open the scoring.
It looked like he US would build from there, but instead they seemed to go into their shell, as Honduras would dominate lengthy stretches of the match, despite struggling to find the equaliser.
Their breakthrough would eventually come in the 85th-minute, though, when Hull City’s Figueroa headed in a Mario Martinez free-kick to earn the visitors a well-deserved draw.
After starring against Ecuador last week, Tottenham Hotspur-bound DeAndre Yedlin also appeared as a 64th-minute substitute, and is one of the players featured in the below gallery of some of the best images from the night.
