This summer saw Brendan Rodgers decide to take a big gamble in his player to replace Luis Suarez.
With Italian striker Mario Balotelli available for £16 million they decided that they would roll the dice on the Italian maverick after their star striker made a move to Barcelona this summer.
Balotelli has however not found it easy since the move to Anfield.
He has struggled in front of goal for Liverpool and on top of that he has lost his place in the Italian national team - as Antonio Conte is not believed to be a fan of the player's attitude.
However, despite that gloomy outlook, Balotelli has shown some positives. His work-rate has certainly improved since his last stint in the Premier League with Manchester City. So has his behaviour. So far he has avoided any serious tabloid ramblings, which Brendan Rodgers must take some credit for.
Many people have been backing Balotelli to come good at the club, with the odd nip and tuck here and there.
One such player is a former Chelsea midfielder. Michael Essien is now at AC Milan. He played with Balotelli last season at the San Siro and he was a friend of the players before they became team-mates last term.
Now he is gone Essien has no doubt that Balotelli will be a success in the game. He has told reporters in Italy:
"Mario is a good person. We are great friends, we already knew each other before we met at Milan. Then he left Milan but I'm sure he will have a great future. He still has to work hard to improve, but he has all the qualities to be a top player."
