Everton return to Premier League action this weekend after the international break, where defender Phil Jagielka featured for England. The centre back now heads back to Merseyside ahead of the Toffees' clash with Aston Villa this weekend, and says he's looking forward to generating some momentum after a tough start to the season.
"We have a few more trips coming up in Europe, which we are looking forward to," said Jagielka. "But it’s nice to get home for a few days. I’ve not seen all the lads yet, with some of them playing on different days, so it will be nice to see them all on Thursday, ready to prepare for our return to Goodison Park."
"It’s massive that we build momentum. We had a couple of games where we thought we had begun to gather pace but then shot ourselves in the foot. It’s important that we try to get ourselves going and keep it going. In this next busy period we need to start to pick up some points and climb that table."
The entire squad appears to be struggling this season, but nobody more so than striker Romelu Lukaku. The Belgian forward joined for £28m this summer after a successful loan spell from Chelsea, but has scored just twice - leading to manager Roberto Martinez defending him.
"Rom is not someone who looks for an excuse. He understands that the potential he has as a footballer will always bring huge expectations. He embraces that," said Martinez.
Finally, the Toffees have been linked with a January move to sign Ipswich Town full back Tyrone Mings. The 21-year-old has impressed in the Championship, prompting interest from West Ham, but Everton could be set to rival the Hammers for his signature in the New Year.
