A select round-up of the latest news relating to Manchester United

Manchester United duo Daley Blind and Robin van Persie were involved in a shock defeat for the Netherlands on Monday, as the Dutch lost 2-0 to Iceland.

Swansea City player Gylfi Sigurdsson scored both goals in the win that leaves Holland with just three points from their opening three group games in the Euro 2016 qualifying stage.

In other news, the Daily Star claims Aston Villa will have to double Ron Vlaar’s wages if the Dutch defender is to stay at the club.

United have been heavily linked with the 29-year-old, with claims earlier this week that Louis van Gaal had made him a priority when the January transfer window opens.

And finally, following claims yesterday that United were attempting to organise a behind-closed-doors match to allow Michael Carrick some game-time, Goal.com claims that game will take place today.

The midfielder is yet to play for United this season and his return would be a huge boost with Ander Herrera currently out injured.
