Former Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has labelled new signing Radamel Falcao as ‘the big one’ in an exclusive interview with MUTV.
The Colombian international was linked with a number of big clubs over the summer, no more so than La Liga giants Real Madrid.
After Madrid president Florentino Perez opted against signing him from French outfit Monaco, the Red Devils swooped in on deadline day to complete a ground-breaking season-long loan deal.
Despite only fully recovering from a lengthy injury layoff in August, Falcao’s £6 million loan move to United was met with euphoria from the supporters as they gave him a standing ovation on his Old Trafford debut.
His fabulous goalscoring ability is unquestionable, and his opening goal for United in the 2-1 victory over Everton was a snippet of what he can do when given the right sort of service.
United spent north of £150 million during the summer on new players, including Angel Di Maria and Ander Herrera, but it is Falcao who excites Sir Alex Ferguson most as the Scot admits to MUTV:
“The big one is Falcao who we're all waiting to see. Obviously, he has fantastic goalscoring ability. He had his injury so getting him on loan is the right thing to do.” He said, quoted by the Daily Mail.
The 28-year-old striker rose to fame as his 72 goals in 87 appearances in all competitions for Porto helped the Portuguese giants complete a historic treble under former Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas.
Should Falcao rediscover such form in the Premier League, then the Old Trafford outfit have the option to make his loan move permanent for a reported £43.5 million.
