Robbie Savage on the winners and losers of a home nations tournament

England stars like Manchester United's Wayne Rooney would be the losers, while Real Madrid star Gareth Bale and Scotland's squad would be the winners.

The recent results returned by Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, combined with the performance level of England, has led former international star Robbie Savage to quip that the Three Lions may not bode well if they were matched up with their neighbours in a home nations tournament.

Former Leicester City, Birmingham City and Blackburn Rovers midfielder Savage, now 39, said: "Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland fans… I bet you love / enjoy watching your country at the moment.

"England fans; do you?"

Northern Ireland defeated Greece by a 2-0 score due to goals from Kyle Lafferty and Jamie Ward.

Scotland, meanwhile, held Poland to a 2-2 draw while Wales edged a 2-1 win over Cyprus.

It is the latter who are arguably one of the greatest beneficiaries to the UEFA expansion in the 2016 European Championships.

Roy Hodgson's Lions, though, have been no slough in qualifying as they have already returned thee wins from three having beaten Switzerland 2-0, annihilated San Marino 5-0 and overseen the Estonian threat by a 1-0 score.
