After beating Croatia 2-1 in the first leg of their Under-21 European Championship qualifying tie at Molineux, England travelled to Vinkonci for the second leg this evening.
Despite an early scare from Chelsea midfielder Mario Pasalic, England took the lead shortly after as Liam Moore swept home Tom Carroll's corner, putting England firmly in the driving seat to book their place in the Czech Republic next summer. However, Croatia's goalscorer from the first leg Marko Livaja found the back of the net once again, scoring just before half time to draw Croatia level.
With the home crowd getting behind their players, England needed to show their resilience in the second half, but wrapped the tie up with 15 minutes to play as Will Hughes danced past a couple of tackles and drove the ball home.
It was a superbly taken goal from the Derby County man, who has attracted interest from the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United in recent times. The 19-year-old will once again have impressed the onlooking scouts for Gareth Southgate's side, and he celebrated his crucial goal alongside Tottenham striker Harry Kane.
Hughes must now turn his attention to the Championship, with his Derby side preparing to face Reading this weekend, where he will be hoping to help the Rams continue his fine start to the season.
