Yoan Gouffran says that Papiss Cisse's return to full fitness is a major boost for the side.
Cisse has missed most of the season so far with injury, but has been edging closer to full-fitness in recent weeks and was handed his first start of the campaign against Swansea City last weekend.
He had the desired impact, too, as he scored twice to help his team to a 2-2 draw and Goaffran admits that having the Senegalese player back in squad is a massive bonus for the side.
“Papiss is back – he’s a great player for us,” Gouffran said to the Sunderland Echo.
“He scores goals for the team. We need him – 100 per cent. I hope he keeps scoring goals.”
Cisse already has four goals to his name this season and looks to be back to his very best.
Hit hit the back of the net with startling regularity during his first few months in England, but his form had slowed down after that blistering start.
However, he seems hungry for goals again now and Newcastle will need him to keep up his goalscoring form if they are to get out of the trouble which they currently are in.
The North-East outfit are still looking for their first win of the season, after a terrible opening to the campaign.
After the international break they take on Leicester City and Gouffran has revealed that they will be going all-out to grab the three points in the fixture.
think the first win will be very good for everybody, because we need it,” the Frenchman said.
“We need to win to keep the confidence. We have to look forward.
“We need to win – if we only take one point, we stay down the table.”
