He's barely got on the pitch for Arsenal this season, but Lukas Podolski found himself called upon by Germany for their Euro 2016 qualifier against Ireland.
The absences of Mesut Ozil and Andre Schurrle opened up the way for the Arsenal forward to play the entire second half after being brought on for defender Matthias Ginter.
Podolski could not help Germany achieve any more than a point, with a late John O'Shea goal holding the World Cup winners to a 1-1 draw.
He managed 24 touches of the ball in total, with two shots at goal, one of which was on target.
Completing 65 per cent of his passes, defensively he managed to block a goal bound Irish effort, although contributed little else, apart from being embroiled in a row over diving.
With a total of 37 Premier League minutes played this season, getting 45 for his country is certainly of use to the 29-year-old, who has recently admitted he will consider his future in January if his playing opportunities do not improve.
Amazingly, it was his 120th cap for Germany, taking him only 10 behind Lothar Mathaus.
Here is a look at how fans reacted on Twitter to his display, and even simply his selection:
Baffles me how Podolski is still winning caps for Germany— daniel hart (@danielhart96) October 14, 2014
Interesting tactics by Germany to try and lure Ireland out by reducing themselves to 10 men. I like it. #Podolski— Oscar Wood (@cabinet96) October 14, 2014
Podolski needs some game time, he looked so out of form/touch tonight— Dave McAuliffe (@gingerdavemk) October 14, 2014
