Arsenal reportedly scouted a Benfica sensation at the weekend.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger reportedly sent an ‘emissary’ to watch Gunners target Anderson Talisca in action for Brazil’s under-21s against Bolivia at the weekend.
Portuguese media outlet Sapo reports that an Arsenal representative has been keeping a close eye on the 20-year-old forward who currently plays for Benfica.
Talisca has started the Primeira Liga campaign in blistering form, scoring six goals in seven appearances, and that has prompted claims that both Arsenal and Liverpool are monitoring the player.
In light of the Gunners’ alleged interest, Talisca’s assistant national coach Maurice Cupertino is quoted as saying, “This is great for the player who is already spoken for to take a new leap in his career, and even for Benfica who, if they want to, can now sell and receive major revenue because he is highly valued.”
Given the presence of Joel Campbell and Yaya Sanogo at Arsenal, along with Lukas Podolski, Danny Welbeck and Olivier Giroud, if Talisca did make the move to the Emirates it may be more of a long-term investment than an immediate first-team addition.
