Tottenham morning news: United ace beats Spurs star, two transfer stories

WH Lane

Manchester United defender Luke Shaw oversaw a challenge from Tottenham Hotspur starlet Eric Dier at table tennis whilst on international duty.

Manchester United left back Luke Shaw defeated Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier at table tennis whilst on international duty, recently.

As has been customary with games between rival players, the loser is forced to pose underneath the table whilst the victor takes a photograph and uploads it to his social media channels.

In this case, Spurs centre back Dier lost… the evidence is above.

England Under-21 manager Gareth Southgate oversaw a 2-1 triumph over Croatia in their Championship qualifier on October 10 in a match where Shaw started and Dier came on as a half-time substitute.

The Young Lions take on Croatia in a second leg tomorrow afternoon.

The goal-scorers in the match were Saido Berahino and Harry Kane.

“I just put myself in the right place at the right time and managed to head it in," said Tottenham striker Kane on the club's official website. "It felt great to score, although the game was obviously tough.

"We wanted to win the home leg for sure, but we know we’ve got another tough game on Tuesday night."

Elsewhere there has been much transfer speculation.

For instance, the Football Italia link the Lilywhites with an imminent move for Juventus attacker Sebastian Giovinco as the player's contract is fast expiring.

The Daily Mirror, meanwhile, believe Spurs are after Toulouse forward Wissam Ben Yedder, a 24-year-old goal-scorer who is potentially available for a cut-price £5 million deal.
