Former Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jamie Redknapp was hugely impressed with the performance of Paco Alcacer on Sunday.
The Valencia striker scored for Spain against Luxembourg in the Euro 2016 Group C qualifier at the Stade Josy Barthel. It was the 21-year-old’s third goal in four appearances for Spain and helped the 2010 World Cup winners to a comprehensive 4-0 victory over Luxembourg.
Redknapp was impressed with Alcacer’s goal and told Sky Sports: ‘He is clinical, there’s absolutely no two ways about it. He knows where the goals are, he is always getting between the widths of the goal...
‘That finish.. it’s a little bit like Robbie Fowler used to do where he doesn’t even look where the goal is but he knows exactly where to hit it’.
It is huge praise indeed from Redknapp on Alcacer, and not something that is wholly undeserved. The 21-year-old has been in brilliant form for Valencia so far this season, scoring four goals and creating 10 chances in seven La Liga appearances.
Alcacer has been more prolific than Chelsea striker Diego Costa for Spain and has been linked with a move to Tottenham in the January transfer window, with The Mirror claiming that the youngster has a release clause of £15 million in his contract.
It cannot be confirmed just yet if Tottenham will make a move for Alcacer in January, but if they do, then they will be making a wise decision.
