Danny McGuire has been discussing Leeds United's season so far.
Leeds Rhinos star Danny McGuire has been speaking about Leeds United’s summer signings.
It has been an eventful start to the season when you consider Dave Hockaday, Neil Redfearn and Darko Milanic had all taken charge of the side by October. But things look far more stable at Elland Road now, and there are high hopes that the side can climb up the table in the months ahead.
“I’ve been to a couple of games, it’s been a bit of an up and down start,” McGuire said. “There have been some good performances.
“I’ve been impressed with some of the signings that we’ve made; some of the Italian guys look very good.”
It is likely that McGuire includes Mirco Antenucci and Marco Silvestri in that list, with the young goalkeeper in particular impressing since his arrival.
But McGuire is hoping the club can push on this season, even if promotion ultimately proves beyond them.
“It’s such a big club that we need to be pushing for promotion,” he said. “We need to be up there and in the play-offs.
“But if we can finish mid-table or above, I think that’s a decent platform to build on for next year.”
That sense of using this season as a spring-board for a promotion-push in a year is something Milanic himself has touched on. And the trick for now is to ensure the players get used to the new coach’s methods and that Redfearn is used effectively following his impressive stint in temporary charge.
