Report: Juventus don't want Mata for Vidal, eyeing Liverpool target

Arturo Vidal

According to the latest reports in Italy, Juventus aren't convinced by a swap deal with Manchester United involving Arturo Vidal and Juan Mata.

It has been widely reported that Manchester United are hoping to get their hands on Arturo Vidal by offering Juan Mata as bait, but it seems that Juventus have other ideas.

Vidal has been linked with United for months, but rumours are growing in volume after the Chilean found himself in disciplinary trouble for a late night brawl in Turin.

While Manchester United are reportedly hoping to trade in Spanish international Mata either as a swap or part-exchange deal, Juventus seem to have set their sights elsewhere.

Tuttosport claims that the Italian champions are lining up possible replacements for Vidal and have identified Xherdan Shaqiri, who is said to be on Liverpool's radar, as their man.

The 23-year-old is believed to be keen to leave Bayern Munich to find more regular first-team football and is also wanted by Galatasaray.

It is thought that around £17 million would be enough to secure Shaqiri, which would see Juventus save some money if they were to raise the expected £40 million plus for Vidal.

The other reason Juventus prefer Shaqiri is that his salary is a more reasonable £2 million rather than Mata's vast income of around £8 million per year, which the Old Lady would never be able to match.
