Manchester United latest: Gundogan recovery monitored; De Gea to rotate for Spain

Ilkay Gundogan

All the latest news, views and transfer rumours from Old Trafford…

Manchester United have been linked with an alternative to Arturo Vidal and Kevin Strootman, with the Express claiming Ilkay Gundogan remains a possible target.

The Borussia Dortmund midfielder has been out injured but returned for the German side’s reserve team last week and looks set to step up his pursuit for match-fitness in the weeks ahead.

The report claims Louis van Gaal is keeping a close eye on Gundogan, who was hailed as one of the best midfielders in Europe prior to his injury, and could be seen as an alternative target if neither Vidal nor Strootman can be coaxed from Juventus or Roma respectively.

In other news, Spain boss Vicente del Bosque has told reporters he is set to rotate United ‘keeper David de Gea and Real Madrid’s Iker Casillas in the games to come.

In quotes published by Goal.com, Del Bosque said, “Both can play. They have to get used to the change bit by bit, as much David as Iker.”
