The fall-out from Raheem Sterling's admission that he was too tired to start for England against Estonia continues, with Queens Park Rangers defender Rio Ferdinand suggesting Wayne Rooney would have performed better for England in major tournaments if he had done the same.
Ferdinand has taken to Twitter to claim his former Manchester United teammate would have gone into previous World Cup and European Championships fresher had he put his feet up at certain times during campaigns.
"With more rest at the right times throughout seasons, Rooney would have gone into tournaments for England fresher 100%. Too proud again."
The ex-United centre-back has claimed England players are too proud to admit they need a rest at times, and when you consider some of Rooney's performances for the Three Lions in the past, perhaps there is some truth in the claims that he should have been used more sparingly in minor games and taken a break from training now and again.
